There is a hunger that goes deeper than the belly, deeper even than the heart. It is the hunger of the soul. Each of us longs to feel that our life matters—that we are needed, valued, and essential. Without purpose, we feel hollow.
Yet let us be clear: emptiness is not the absence of soul. You cannot lose your soul, for it is the eternal spark that animates your body. In SOUL POWER, I wrote that the soul is unborn and undying; it is the current of electricity and the flame of consciousness within us. When we feel empty, it is not that the soul has gone missing—it is that we have lost alignment with its calling.
And that calling is what makes us distinctly human. Animals live by instinct, but humans have the rare capacity to reflect, to question, to choose. In The 7 Maxims of Soul Happiness, I emphasize that the human body itself is a blessing—a rare gift among countless forms of life. With this body, we can aspire to more than survival. We can awaken to our deeper nature.
Sadly, too many squander this gift. They drift through life distracted, chasing shadows, never pausing to ask: Why am I here?
But you don’t have to.
Every Living Thing Has Purpose
Look around you. Every herb, insect, tree, and animal plays a part in the great symphony of existence. As I wrote in Food Yoga, food itself carries intention—plants grow to nourish, to heal, to unify. Nothing in creation is useless. Likewise, you, too, were born with a purpose.
The question is: will you claim it?
To begin, take time to notice what fuels your passion. Where do you feel most alive? What strengths seem to flow naturally through you? What challenges continually invite your growth?
In my new book, The Silent Power (unpublished), I remind readers that the mind can be either your fiercest foe or your most loyal friend. If left unchecked, it will drown out the whispers of your soul with endless chatter. But once harnessed, the mind becomes an ally, helping you recognize your authentic motivations and guiding you toward your rightful path.
The Ancient Compass of Numerology
Believe it or not, even the ancients left us maps for this journey. Numerology, for example, can provide startling insight into our tendencies, strengths, and challenges. In The 7 Maxims of Soul Happiness, I explain how our destiny and day numbers reveal clues about our nature.
Take my case: my destiny number is 7, a vibration aligned with spirituality, philosophy, and humanitarian work. My day number is 4, which brings a practical, grounded energy. Together, these influences shape my life as both a spiritual teacher and a pragmatic organizer of service projects.
Numerology is not a prison. It doesn’t dictate your life. But it can serve as a compass, helping you avoid wasted effort and align your choices with your natural flow.
Purpose Evolves, But Service Endures
Purpose is not static. As consciousness evolves, your role may shift. In Soulful Mastery, I describe life as a spiral, not a straight line—we circle back, expand, deepen, and transform. What you are called to today may not be what you are called to tomorrow. And that is perfectly natural.
What remains constant is this: real purpose must be fueled by passion and grounded in service. Service is not something we do; it is who we are. It is the soul’s default setting.
When you align your purpose with service—whether through teaching, art, healing, parenting, business, or food relief—you tap into the eternal current of soul happiness. You live not just for yourself, but as a conscious participant in the grand choreography of the cosmos.
What is Your Purpose?
So I ask you now, as I ask myself often: What is your purpose?
Do not wait for the “right time” to answer. The search itself is part of your awakening. The sooner you live from purpose, the sooner peace and happiness will follow.
Remember: You were born for this. Your soul chose this life for a reason.
The universe is waiting for your answer.
