The key to better health and a cure for alzheimers?
Recently, I came across an interview with nitric oxide researcher Dr. Nathan Bryan that deeply resonated with me (watch here). He explained how this tiny molecule, nitric oxide (NO), is essential for circulation, oxygen delivery, and healing—and how it declines with age.
As I listened, I kept thinking: This is exactly what Food Yoga teaches in another language. In my book, Food Yoga: Nourishing Body, Mind & Soul, I share how food, breath, water, light, and intention sustain not just our bodies, but also our hearts and souls. Science is now confirming what yogis have always known: living in harmony with nature awakens the body’s healing power.
Food as Energy and Medicine
- Fresh, plant-based foods like leafy greens, sprouts, beets, and fruits naturally support nitric oxide.
- In Food Yoga, these foods are considered sattvic—pure, uplifting, and filled with life-force (prana).
- When prepared with love and gratitude, their healing power multiplies.
️ Ahimsa and the Body-Temple
- Habits like excess sugar, chemical mouthwash, or antacids disrupt nitric oxide production.
- Food Yoga calls us to ahimsa, non-violence—including how we treat ourselves.
- Caring for the body-temple with natural, wholesome foods is an act of compassion toward self and others.
Breath and Light as Nourishment
- Nasal breathing, humming, and time in sunlight all boost nitric oxide naturally.
- Yogic practices like pranayama and sun gazing echo this wisdom.
- Nourishment is not just from food—it’s also from air, light, and prana.
Conscious Eating, Conscious Living
- Eating with stress shuts down healing pathways.
- Offering food, pausing to breathe, and eating with gratitude increases vitality.
- Food becomes more than fuel—it becomes a spiritual connection.
✨ Food Yoga Morning Routine for Nitric Oxide
Here’s a simple way to weave science and spirituality together each morning:
- Hydrate mindfully – Start with warm water or lemon water.
- Sunlight & breath – Step outside, take 10 deep nasal breaths, and feel the sun on your skin.
- Sacred greens – Enjoy a smoothie with spinach, beets, or sprouts.
- Offer with love – Take a moment to offer your food in gratitude before eating.
- Hum or chant OM – A few minutes of chanting OM or humming increases nitric oxide while uplifting your spirit.
Longevity and Liberation
Nitric oxide research shows us how to stay vibrant and strong as we age. But Food Yoga reminds us of the deeper purpose: not just to live longer, but to live more consciously, compassionately, and in harmony with all beings.
When we align with nature’s gifts—pure food, breath, water, sunlight, and intention—we nourish not just the body, but the soul. That is the essence of Food Yoga.
